Golf Course Management Strategies For Lower Scores

Almost everyone who plays golf would like to shoot lower scores. However, most people go about this completely in the wrong way. Their mentality is that to shoot lower scores, they need to swing harder. Now, they find themselves spending hundreds of dollars on training aids that will actually leave them more confused. People probably wonder how they can lower their scores without training aids, so they may just give up the game out of frustration. Before they quit, they should consider using a variety of course management strategies that will definitely lower their scores.

The first strategy is to have a good estimate in regards to how far each club will hit. This will take the guessing game, and ego trip, out of the shot. When golfers have these consistent numbers with them, they will easily be able to refer to the sheet before selecting their club. Most golfers think that they hit the ball substantially further than they actually do, so they end up trying to hit two or three clubs less than they should. This leaves them scratching their head as to why the ball consistently lands 30 yards short of the green.

The next strategy is to consider where the golfer wants the ball to land. This is especially important on short par 3′s, as this is a good opportunity to make a birdie. However, the ball needs to land on a spot that allows for an easy putt. Far too many golfers simply whack at the ball as hard as possible, which may cause them to have a 60 foot putt for birdie. Most par 3 holes also have the most undulation in the greens, so this makes a close shot even more important.

The final strategy is the short game. Golfers absolutely need to focus on their chipping, putting and short pitch shots. It is never good for one’s confidence to skull a ball on a chip shot, which seemingly travels further than normal irons.
