Make More Putts And Shoot Better Scores
Good putting in the game of golf is the difference between shooting a good score or not. It is very possible to hit the golf ball poorly but score well if the golfer putts well on the greens. The key to better scoring is putting and most golf professionals will tell you that you should practice putting more than you should for any other part of your game. So what are the basics you can practice to improve your putting?
First you must have a putter that is pleasing to your eye and feels good in your hands.Confused? Here ‘s a little help . There are literally hundreds of models to choose from. Secondly must develop a putting stroke that returns the center of the putter head or “sweet spot’ to the back of the ball. This usually entails keeping the body very quiet, centered and with the eyes looking directly down on the ball at a perpendicular angle to the ground. The putting stroke must move like a pendulum on a clock using the shoulders arms and hands moving in unison in a rhythmic, back and through motion. Thirdly the golfer must be able to “read’ greens, meaning that they should have a good understanding of speed, slope and grain of the grass so that the proper aim point is taken before the putting stroke begins. It-s important to understand how the ball will roll. This roll is called “break’; left, right, straight in or sometimes even a double break, meaning a putt could break left at first and then right towards the end near the hole. To read a green the golfer must know where the high point of a slope is around the hole then line the putter up with the slope in mind and confidently stroke the ball in that selected direction.
